How to Apply for a Russian Student Visa

A foreign student who wants to study in Russia requires a Russian student visa to fulfil this purpose. In order to apply for a Russian student visa, a student must first secure a place at a Russian educational institute. It is granted to those international students who are enrolled on academic or language courses in Russia.

The Russia student visa is issued as a single entry visa that is initially granted for a period of 3 months to 1 year. It is an extendable visa that can be extended depending on the duration of the course of study. It may be converted into a multiple-entry visa after three months of the student’s arrival in Russia.

3 stages of Russian student visa application process

A Russian student visa process has three stages-invitation letter, visa application and visa registration.

Stage 1 – Invitation letter

The first stage to obtain a student visa to Russia is to acquire an invitation letter. It is also referred to as ‘visa support.’ After you secure admission in an educational institute in Russia, a letter of Invitation will be issued to you from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its Regional Office.

In case Regional Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not situated in the region where you plan to study in, an invitation letter must be issued by the University, Institute or College where you have enrolled for your course of study.

The invitation must be issued on the official letter head of the University or Institute or College and must be signed by the rector. The invitation must be certified either by the Office for International Affairs of the local administration or by the local office of the Ministry of Interior.

Stage 2 – Visa Application

The second stage to obtain a student visa to Russia is to apply for the visa at a Russian embassy or consulate. Before applying for a student visa to Russia a student must check the rules of application and the required visa fees from the Russian embassy in his or her home country.

Stage 3 – Visa Registration

The third and final stage to obtain a student visa to Russia is to register the visa upon arrival in Russia. After a student arrives in Russia he or she must register the student visa within seven days of arrival. Normally it is done by the University or the educational institute where the student enrolled for the course of study.

Eligibility criteria for Russian student visa

To be eligible for Russian student visa you must fulfil the following conditions:

• You must have a valid and signed passport that has at least two blank pages
• Your passport must have a validity that extends the duration of the visa you are applying for by at least 6 months
• You must have a copy of your Russian visa application form, completed and signed by you
• You must have the original letter of invitation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its Regional Office or the University or educational institute where you have enrolled for your course
• You must provide certificates of your current diploma or degree or educational qualification
• You must provide proof of tuition fee payment to the University or College or Institute where you plan to study
• You must provide an original HIV (AIDS) Test Certificate showing a negative result. The test must be a recent one and must not have been conducted more than three months ago
• You must display your intention to leave Russia at the end of your authorized stay

Steps to follow to apply for a Russian student visa

Before you apply for Russian student visa, check the time needed for the visa application process to be completed. Once you are sure of that, you can go ahead with the application procedure mentioned below.

Step 1: Obtain Invitation Letter or Visa Support

As mentioned earlier, the first step towards obtaining a Russian student visa is to get an invitation letter after being enrolled in a University or College or Educational Institute. It will be provided to you by the inviting college or institute or University.

Step 2: Fill out the Visa Application Form

Fill the Russian student visa application form online and print the completed visa application form. You can also download the application form and then fill it up. Remember to sign the completed visa application form.

Step 3: Gather the required documents

Make a check list of the documents that you need to submit along with your application form. Gather all the documents and keep them ready for submission.

Step 4: Get the visa photograph taken

Provide your recent colour photograph for the visa application. Make sure that your photograph matches or corresponds to all the specifications required for visa photographs. In most cases you will need to submit at least two passport photographs along with your visa application form. You will also need to sign the photographs on the reverse side.

Step 5: Keep the visa application fee ready

Keep ready the visa application fee that you will need to submit along with your application form. Check with the Russian embassy or consulate in your home country to find out the fees and the mode of payment accepted by them.

Step 6: Submit the visa application form

Submit your visa application at your local Russian Embassy for a single entry student visa. You will have to submit the visa application and the required documents along with the required application fee in person.

Generally Russian embassies do not accept visa applications and documents from authorized persons, representatives or agents under any circumstance. You will be provided a receipt after you submit the visa application and the required fee.

Step 7: Wait for the visa decision

After submission, wait for a decision to be taken regarding your visa application. You will be provided a date on which you can get in touch with the embassy regarding the visa. Contact the embassy on that date to know if you have been granted the visa.

Step 8: Collect the student visa

Collect the visa on the specified date. To collect your visa you must carry the receipt given to you after the submission of your application form and visa fee.

Step 9: Obtain a Migration Card

You will need to obtain a migration card at the point of entry into Russia. It is a form that you must complete and submit at passport control. Half of the form will be kept at the passport control and half will be returned to you after being stamped. You must retain your half till you exit Russia.

Step 10: Register the student visa

You must get your visa registered within seven days of your entry in Russia. In case of student visas, it is normally the inviting party (University or College or Language School or Institute) that arranges for the visa registration of the students.

You will have to provide your passport with the Russian student visa and the migration card to the University’s or educational institute’s foreign department. After your registration is done, you will be provided with a proof of your visa registration, which you must retain carefully till you exit the country.

Extension of Russian student visa

In case your course is longer than three months, your student visa will be extended after you arrive in Russia. The visa will be valid for the entire duration of your course. You may convert your single entry visa to multiple-entry visa depending on the length and type of your course.

Note that once your visa is converted or extended, you will be issued a new visa in your passport.

Fees for Russian Student Visa

The fees required for Russian student visa varies according to the country that issued the passport to the student. However, note that your application fee will not be refunded if your application for a student visa is refused or rejected for any reason.

Разумное большинство старается планировать свой летний отдых заранее. Будем откровенны: Турция и тому подобные лоукост-курорты уже никого не прельщают, а на Европу, Азию и Америку не всегда находится нужное количество денег. Мы нашли способ совместить приятное с полезным — съездить в страну, в которой вы всегда мечтали побывать, и одновременно сделать доброе дело. Например, отправиться в международные волонтерские лагеря, где люди из разных стран любого возраста вместе занимаются необременительным делом, а в свободное время отдыхают и осматривают окрестности.

Rempart

Французское агентство «Rempart» занимается в основном реставрацией старых памятников архитектуры по всей Франции. Это может быть заброшенная церковь рядом с Роной, полуразрушенные замки XIX века в Альпах или историческое здание недалеко от средиземноморского побережья, словом, вариантов множество. На сайте можно выбрать проект, написать заявку и заполнить анкету, после чего вы получите официальное приглашение. Стоит это недорого, в среднем не более 10 евро в день. Предоставляется жилье: в некоторых лагерях можно жить в палатках, где-то — в доме, а иногда и в замке, но в любом случае брать с собой спальные мешки очень желательно. С едой интереснее: каждый день в лагере выбирается équipe cuisine (команда на кухню), которая составляет все меню на следующий день, едет в магазин за продуктами и готовит обед и ужин для всего лагеря. Эти 3–4 человека в этот день не работают, потому что приготовить обед из трех блюд на компанию из 30 человек — дело небыстрое и непростое. Обычно в таких лагерях все живут как одна большая и дружная семья: общий стол, работа вместе, походы, развлечения — все в компании. Один из лучших вариантов, чтобы попрактиковать французский или английский язык.

World4u

Если Франция не вдохновляет, то агентство «World4u» предлагает гораздо более широкий выбор стран и программ: помощь детям, уход за животными, реставрация памятников, облагораживание природы, организация фестивалей и многое другое. Отправиться можно в страны Африки, Азии, Америки, а также поучаствовать в проекте на территории России — например, пожить в юрте на берегу Байкала и вместе с международной командой заняться уборкой и облагораживанием территории. У «World4u» есть официальное представительство в Москве, поэтому с пониманием того, что вас ждет, дела обстоят проще. Чтобы поучаствовать, нужно подать заявку и заплатить регистрационный взнос в размере 5 000 рублей. Некоторые проекты требуют оплаты дополнительных расходов, но их не большинство.

Education First

Совсем не известный широкой общественности вариант этакого европейского work & travel — работа «вожатым» в лагерях EF. Информацию об этом на сайте вы вряд ли найдете, но в офисе все расскажут с удовольствием. Если вы молоды, энергичны и отлично говорите на английском языке, то можете бесплатно поехать в какой-нибудь из лагерей EF в Англии в качестве стаффа. Вам придется следить за детьми, развлекать их и решать их проблемы, которые могут возникнуть. Эта работа сложнее и ответственнее всего предыдущего, зато она оплачивается. То же самое возможно во Франции и Америке.

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms

Conservation Volunteers

«Расскажи мне про Австралию» после программы «Conservation Volunteers». Совсем бесплатно или в среднем за $100 в неделю (включая проживание и питание) есть возможность пожить в Австралии или Новой Зеландии и пообщаться с их флорой и фауной. Кроме облагораживания природы можно выбрать проект помощи инвалидам в каком-нибудь парке. Move Nepal

Помощь может приносить радость, а может сопровождаться переживаниями и дискомфортом — все зависит от проекта, в котором вы участвуете, и личного настроя. Кому-то проще общаться с природой и ухаживать за животными, а кому-то нужен настоящий фидбэк, живая отдача от общения с людьми, которым нужна ваша помощь. Неправительственная организация «Move Nepal» поддерживает школы, детские дома для детей с ограниченными возможностями и приглашает волонтеров из разных стран помочь тем, кому в жизни повезло меньше. Можно преподавать английский детям с ограниченными возможностями, учить глухих людей пользоваться компьютером и многое другое. За 250 евро в месяц организация предоставляет волонтерам жилье, питание и транспорт на территории проекта.

Sudan Volunteer Programme

Преподавание английского в самой большой и одной из самых бедных стран Африки — Судане — будет действительно интересным опытом. Само собой, участие в программе бесплатное, но нужно очень хорошо знать язык, на уровне native speaker, и быть не моложе 22 лет. Это идеальный вариант для тех, кто уже закончил университет, но на работу еще не устроился, потому что программа подразумевает только долгосрочное участие — от 6 месяцев. К тому же будут выплачивать ежемесячную зарплату — примерно $250.

Volunteer HQ

Еще одна международная организация, которая занимается многими странами, — «Volunteer HQ». На сайте можно выбрать любой проект, начиная со спасения черепах на Бали и заканчивая работой с детьми в Перу. Цены зависят от страны и вида деятельности — минимум $180 за неделю пребывания.

Couchsurfing

Overview

The Program in Australia is meant for all those animal-loving souls who are keen to volunteer abroad for a meaningful cause and contribute effectively towards the wellbeing of the native animals. The project is situated near Mount Larcom, a rural town in northern Australia. Being a volunteer, you’ll get to work at a rescue center and shelter home, which has an abundance of animals in temporary or permanent care at any given time. Apart from the Bridled Nailtail Wallaby and Northern and Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats, you may care for wildlife such as sugar gliders, lizards, non-venomous snakes, koalas, and native birds.

It’ll be a great opportunity for you to work closely with professional conservationists. The program provides medical care for injured, sick and orphaned wildlife through its rescue and rehabilitation program. Animals are nursed back to health with the goal of being well enough to be released back into the wild. Program Requirements

Volunteers must be 18 years or older at the time of joining the project. You need to have an open mind and a flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. Participants must be fit and healthy at the time of joining the program. Every volunteer is required to show proof of Tetanus vaccination prior to joining the program. The program is suitable for those with a keen interest in animal and wildlife conservation. However, the program is open to all and you do not need the necessary qualifications to join the program. Participants should be prepared to work outdoors and should be fit and healthy.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

As a volunteer for this program, your daily activities may consist of:

• Preparing food for the animals
• Feeding the animals
• Cleaning the animal enclosures
• Providing enrichment for the animals
• Laundry duties
• Keeping the project grounds clean and tidy

Other activities may include:

• Maintenance activities, including building enclosures
• Harvesting/collecting food for the animals
• Planting trees

The majority of your time is spent cleaning and feeding animals and their enclosures.

Living

Arrival Info

Volunteers need to book their flights to arrive at Gladstone Airport (Airport Code: GLT) after taking a connecting flight from Brisbane. Make sure you book your flights to arrive at Gladstone between 9 am to 4 pm. Alternatively, you also take a bus or train from Brisbane to Gladstone. Volunteers may be picked up from Gladstone Airport or they can take a train or bus to the local town for pick up. The project is located near Mount Larcom (35 km west of Gladstone).in Queensland. Volunteers can be picked up from Gladstone or can come directly to Mount Larcom by train or bus. Upon arrival, volunteers are collected and transported to the project site.

Orientation

Volunteers will be oriented and guided about the work to do. The first week involves lots of on the job training as each volunteer learns the different tasks involved in caring for the animals and the different jobs that need to be carried out to support the animals and the maintenance of the project.

Accommodation

Volunteers stay on-site at the project in single rooms with shared bathroom facilities. There are laundry facilities located on-site.

Meals

Main meals and morning/afternoon tea are supplied at the project; vegetarian and vegan meals are available upon request. Volunteers should bring their own supply of snacks and there is a weekly trip into Gladstone to stock up on supplies. Volunteers have access to a communal kitchen and are expected to prepare their own meals and snacks.

During Your Free Time

Volunteers will not get any free time during their stay, however, they may choose to spend time in Gladstone or embark upon some of the interesting things to do in the surrounding areas, either before or after the project. The Great Barrier Reef is on your doorstep so take a tour to explore, do a dive course or a liveaboard. Only minutes from the project location is Gladstone’s most prominent natural landmark – Mount Larcom. Mount Larcom is commonly referred to as the ‘lion mountain’ because it resembles a lion and lioness facing each other. At the heart of the city is Goondoon Street, perfect for shoppers and tourists. You can explore the Library Square, the site of the city’s monthly produce and arts and crafts market.

В августе 2017 в отпуск я ездила в Италию. Пять дней провела в винодельческом поместье недалеко от города Асти на севере Италии. Бесплатно.

Владельцы винодельни — семейная пара Рудольф и Бурги Лангдауэр — поселили меня в отдельные апартаменты, которые туристам сдают по 140 €⁣ ( 10 271
Р ) за ночь, кормили завтраками и обедами, по вечерам возили в рестораны. Организовали две экскурсии на производство граппы и игристого вина и рассказали про процесс виноделия все, что знают сами.

За это Рудольф и Бурги не взяли с меня ни копейки. А все потому, что я приехала на виноградник волонтером.

Что такое волонтерство

Волонтер — доброволец; человек, который работает бесплатно. Делает это он по собственному желанию, именно поэтому называется таким словом (voluntarius — с латинского «желающий»). Работать можно как в России, так и за границей. Главное — найти организацию или людей, которым нужна помощь.

Волонтер договаривается с людьми о том, что несколько дней, недель или месяцев поживет у них бесплатно, а взамен будет работать. Работать обычно приходится руками: реставрировать здания, ухаживать за животными или растениями, очищать от мусора пляжи или лес, собирать фрукты. Есть программы, в которых надо общаться со стариками или детьми, фотографировать культурные объекты для выставки или фонда, устраивать фестивали и праздники.

Волонтер заранее знает, чем будет заниматься на месте, и сам выбирает работу. Взамен ему предоставляют спальное место, еду, свободное время — несколько часов по вечерам и выходные — и развлечения, например экскурсии. Помимо материальных выгод этот опыт обычно дает много впечатлений и новые знакомства.

Я поехала на виноградник, потому что мне было интересно посмотреть, как создается вино. Готовилась целый день на жаре подрезать лозы, но владелец виллы предупредил, что такой работы у них немного: садовник справляется. В итоге в поле я провела не больше 4 часов, а в остальные дни делала что-то по дому. Помыла примерно 30 окон в особняке и апартаментах для туристов, убрала строительную пыль в новом помещении, помогла Рудольфу с мытьем винных баков. За день набиралось до 8 часов работы. Столько же занимает забота о поместье и винном бизнесе у самих хозяев (и это они на пенсии!).

Работать от 4 до 8 часов пять дней в неделю приходится на всех волонтерских программах. До поездки в Италию я участвовала в трех. В 2010 году вместе с археологами раскапывала галло-романское поселение в центре Франции, в 2012 в Рейкьявике вырезала на гальке руны для благотворительного магазина. В 2013 я работала в сафари-парке под Йоханнесбургом: кормила львят, сурикатов, жирафов и детенышей гиены, убирала в клетках и следила за тем, чтобы туристы не обижали животных и наоборот.

Это был интересный опыт, но за него мне пришлось заплатить в общей сложности 100 000 рублей, так что ставить эту волонтерскую программу в один ряд с другими нельзя. Обычно они все-таки не требуют оплаты или цена участия в несколько раз меньше.

Попасть на волонтерскую программу можно через российский сервис, через международную организацию и самостоятельно. Я пробовала все три способа.

Стать волонтером через российскую организацию

Это лучший способ для тех, кто никогда не ездил добровольцем. Одна из крупнейших организаций в России, которая отправляет волонтеров за границу, называется «Волд-фо-ю». Она входит в Альянс Европейских волонтерских организаций и международной организации Service Civil International. Сотрудники «Волд-фо-ю» помогают найти подходящий проект, подать на него заявку и пройти регистрацию.

Для регистрации часто требуется мотивационное письмо и иногда вступительный взнос. Он может быть символическим, 20⁠—⁠30 €⁣ ( 1467

Р ) на трансфер, а может достигать 550 €⁣ ( 40 349

Р ), например в случае проектов для подростков, потому что тогда волонтеров размещают в семьях. За посредничество «Волд-фо-ю» тоже берет деньги, 6900 рублей.

В России есть еще несколько молодежных движений и организаций. Они напоминают турфирмы и удобны для тех, кто едет волонтером впервые, боится попасть в беду и плохо знает английский язык. Часто только от организаций можно попасть на тот или иной проект.

Опытным путешественники иногда проще самостоятельно найти программу и сэкономить на взносе.

Российские организации для волонтеров

«Волд-фо-ю» — сотрудничает с программой EVS, отправляет русских волонтеров за границу и принимает волонтеров на программах в России.

«Сфера» — молодежное движение, входит в Альянс Европейских волонтерских организаций, отправляет волонтеров за границу по программе EVS и принимает их в России.

Travel Volunteer — сервис поиска и бронирования волонтерских программ.

Волонтерский центр «Бурундук» — в основном тут проекты по защите природы в России и за границей.

Волонтерский центр «Ая» отправляет волонтеров на экологические и социальные проекты.

«Интеракция» — клуб межкультурного взаимодействия в Воронеже.

Do Global — волонтерский центр в Магнитогорске.

Travel Works — центр организации образовательных программ за рубежом. Волонтерство — одно из направлений.

Projects Abroad — сервис по бронированию зарубежных стажировок и волонтерских программ.

«Чиптрип» — турфирма, в которой волонтерство — одно из направлений.

«Интерра» — красноярская региональная общественная организация, отправляющая волонтеров за границу.

Стать волонтером через международную организацию

Одна из крупнейших международных программ — Европейская Волонтерская Служба (European Voluntary Service, EVS). По этой программе можно получить грант и поехать на длительный проект за рубежом, если вам от 17 до 30 лет. Участвовать можно только через аккредитованные российские организации.

Четыре года назад по запросу volunteering in Africa я нашла сайт Volunteersa.com. Там был выбор из четырех программ: уход за лошадьми на берегу океана, обучение детей, работа в большом заповеднике и помощь в маленьком сафари-парке. Взнос за участие — 1000 €⁣ ( 73 362
Р ) за 2 недели. Переписка с организаторами в целом заняла не больше часа, а на то, чтобы перевести деньги на их счет в ЮАР, потребовался один поход в банк.

В этом году, когда я гуглила volunteering at winery, выпал сайт Workaway.info. Там публикуют объявления люди и компании, которые нуждаются в помощи. Но чтобы увидеть контакты принимающей стороны, нужно зарегистрироваться. Сайт берет за это 30 €⁣ ( 2201

Организовать все самостоятельно

Это самый сложный и небезопасный способ. Суть в том, чтобы самому найти заинтересованных в помощи людей и договориться с ними об условиях, которые обычно предоставляют волонтерам. Так рисковать имеет смысл, только если не получилось найти готовую программу, хочется чего-то специфического или жалко платить посредникам.

Я не хотела платить 30 €⁣ ( 2201
Р ) на сайте-агрегаторе, поэтому решила, что получу электронные адреса виноградников даром. В «Гугл-картах» открыла северную часть Италии — в августе там не так жарко, — в окне поиска вбила слово winery и получила 10 виноделен. На их официальных сайтах я отыскала электронную почту владельцев и разослала всем письма.

На письмо ответили только четыре винодела из десяти. Один из них согласился на мое предложение. Позже Рудольф признался: вообще-то, им не нужны волонтеры, но они с женой изучили мои соцсети и подумали, что для них это может быть интересный опыт.

Еще три винодела написали, что уже набрали практикантов из местных аграрных университетов или не знают, как оформить волонтера по трудовому кодексу. По их словам, в Италии это необходимо даже для тех, кто работает бесплатно. Выяснить это заранее я не могла: знать такие нюансы может только живущий в другой стране бизнесмен.

Какие документы нужны волонтеру

Волонтеры не получают денег, поэтому обычно достаточно туристической визы. Но для въезда на проект с физическим трудом в Исландии, Великобритании и Италии нужна гуманитарная виза. Об этом волонтеров предупреждают сотрудники «Волд-фо-ю» или другой организации-посредника.

Расходы на оформление визы берет на себя сам путешественник. Принимающая сторона может помочь с приглашением. Она присылает официальное подтверждение участия в программе по почте. В документе написано, чем будет заниматься волонтер, и сказано, что он будет жить и питаться за счет хозяев. Для посольства этого достаточно.

Такое приглашение я получала в офисе «Волд-фо-ю», когда оформляла документы во Францию, и аналогичную бумагу просила у сафари-парка в Йоханнесбурге, чтобы оформить визу в ЮАР. В Исландию и Италию я заезжала по уже открытому шенгену. На границе меня ни о чем не спросили.

Расходы

Помимо визы волонтер оплачивает медицинскую страховку и билеты на самолет. Если место назначения находится далеко от аэропорта, то расходы на поезд, автобус или «Блаблакар» тоже на его ответственности. Еще за свои деньги покупаются магнитики, открытки, одежда и прочая запрещенка.

Всем остальным обеспечивают организаторы. А именно: местом для сна, деньгами на еду, которую волонтеры покупают и готовят вместе, экскурсиями и развлечениями.

Волонтерские организации обычно предоставляют свою штаб-квартиру или просят у мэрии свободное помещение. Им может оказаться все что угодно. В Рейкьявике я жила в старинном трехэтажном доме, который принадлежал молодежной организации. Нашей группе из 10 человек выделили большую комнату, дали матрасы, и мы спали в спальных мешках, привезенных из дома.

Во время трехнедельного волонтерства во Франции, в деревне Вандевр-дю-Пуату, мы спали на раскладушках в большом зале школы, ели в столовой, а готовили на кухне. За время программы за счет организаторов мы побывали на экскурсии на ферму, где делается козий сыр, в городе Ла-Рошель и в парке аттракционов «Футуроскоп».

Это было неплохо: другая группа, к которой мы однажды ездили в гости в соседний городок, ютилась в заброшенных владениях местного монастыря. Волонтеров пригласили как раз для того, чтобы их восстановить.

В Африке условия были лучше, но тоже походные. С тремя другими девушками я делила палатку размером с комнату. Там стояли настоящие кровати и висел кондиционер, а с крыльца открывался вид на саванну со страусами, антилопами и жирафами. Душ и туалет находились в нескольких шагах от палаток, а ели мы в кафе при зоопарке — организаторы дали талоны на питание.

С точки зрения условий мои итальянские каникулы в этом году выдались шикарными. Но жить в пятизвездочных апартаментах и ужинать в ресторанах для волонтера чистое везение. Изначально я не рассчитывала на такое отношение, но тем приятнее было его получить. Было ощущение, как будто я приехала к бабушке с дедушкой, а они внезапно оказались не крестьянами из Новгородской области, а европейцами с собственным виноградником.

Минусы и риски

Волонтерство — это не курорт. На программе не получится расслабиться и ничего не делать, так что это не отдых в общепринятом смысле. Работать приходится минимум 4 часа в день (если очень повезет), работа часто рутинная и грязная. От нее устаешь как физически, так и морально.

Принимающая сторона не несет ответственности за то, получат ли волонтеры удовольствие от пребывания. Организаторы стараются сделать условия нормальными, а волонтеров — довольными и счастливыми, но возможности для этого есть не всегда. От раскладушки или матраса может болеть спина или чесаться кожа, душ и туалет окажутся неудобными, придется самостоятельно готовить.

в день придется работать волонтеру — это минимум

Все волонтеры очень разные, их привычки тоже. Некоторые любят по вечерам смотреть на ноутбуке кино на полной громкости, другие не убирают за собой в туалете, а третьи громко чавкают во время обеда, потому что в их культуре так принято.

Если волонтерство проходит в неблагополучных странах или вы едете к частному лицу, риск попасть в беду выше, чем у рядового туриста. Обезопасить себя можно только медстраховкой и осторожным поведением. В остальном приходится полагаться на себя.

Несмотря на то что на итальянской винодельне жить было комфортнее всего, психологически эта поездка далась мне тяжелее всех.

Во-первых, волонтерить в одиночку морально сложнее. Обычно все программы организованы так, что в группе собираются от 5 до 20 человек разных национальностей и в возрасте от 18 до 50 лет, а принимающая сторона уже не раз что-то такое делала.

Владельцы виллы «Иль-соньо» раньше никогда не звали в гости незнакомых девушек из России, и, подозреваю, мое пребывание стало для них стрессом. Сама я все время чувствовала себя как на минном поле: боялась что-нибудь разбить, потерять, не понять, сказать лишнего. И все-таки слажала. В тот день, когда нужно было встать в 6:30 утра и пойти срезать лозы, я пришла на место встречи на 30 минут позже и очень обидела этим пунктуального австрийца. В ответ на мои извинения он стереотипно высказался о русских, и это обидело уже меня. Если бы поездку организовывал молодежный фонд, а в группе было еще несколько корейцев, французов, американцев и арабов, подобный конфликт бы не возник.

Во-вторых, от волонтерской работы сильно устаешь. Во Франции и Исландии я побывала, пока училась в университете, и пара недель монотонного труда дались легко. В Африку и в Италию я поехала в счет отпуска. Приходилось все время напоминать себе, ради чего я это делаю, и планировать путешествие так, чтобы осталось несколько дней на отдых.

В волонтерских программах почти нет личного времени и пространства. В групповых программах волонтеров после работы часто занимают экскурсиями, велосипедными прогулками или походами в гости к местным жителям, и отказываться от них неприлично. Когда в Рейкьявике я сообщила лидеру лагеря, что после 17:00 хочу погулять по городу и посмотреть музеи, а не учиться вместе со всеми играть на африканских барабанах, услышала что-то вроде: «Вечно вы, русские, отделяетесь от коллектива». Возможность полежать в тишине и почитать книжку тоже выпадает нечасто. Обычно в спальном зале тусуются и болтают другие волонтеры.

Языковой барьер — последнее, из-за чего можно беспокоиться. Переводчиков на программах нет, но для участия достаточно хотя бы базового английского (хотя корейцев или китайцев, которых в группе всегда несколько человек, это не останавливает).

Хорошо, если путешественник знает или учит язык принимающей страны. Организаторы стараются подбирать участников так, чтобы был баланс национальностей, но раз на раз не приходится. Во Франции в нашей группе 9 человек из 12 говорили по-французски. 90% времени мы общались именно на нем, поэтому две кореянки и девочка из Беларуси оказались выключенными из контекста. В Италии мы с Рудольфом говорили по-английски, но Бурги языком почти не владела и обсуждать с ней задания пришлось по-немецки. В остальных странах я пользовалась английским.

Ради чего всё это

Я делаю это ради экономии и ощущения, что ты улучшаешь мир; а еще ради полного погружения в культуру и языковую среду, необычного опыта.

Некоторые программы инициируются государством, и реальный выхлоп от них небольшой. Например, в Исландии помимо вырезания сувенирных рун волонтерам предлагают фотографировать местные достопримечательности. Вряд ли это нужно местному населению, но такие проекты — исключение из правил. Обычно волонтеры действительно делают что-то полезное.

При этом добровольцы не отнимают рабочие места, поэтому местные относятся к ним более дружелюбно, чем к приехавшим на заработки студентам или туристам, и охотно впускают в свой социальный круг. Не знаю, как иначе я могла бы заглянуть на барбекю и искупаться в бассейне дома у мэра, посидеть за одним столом с французами на деревенском празднике, побывать на алковечеринке у археологов и на дне рождения жирафа. Приятно чувствовать себя в экзотической среде своим человеком.

Еще волонтер может попробовать то, что многим недоступно: следить за акулами в Коста-Рике, варить пиво во французских Пиренеях или Южной Африке, ухаживать за королевскими садами в Лондоне, учить английскому жителей вулканического острова недалеко от Фиджи или монахов в Непале, лечить ягуаров и обезьян в Боливии, помогать на литературном фестивале в Гонконге. Подготовка не нужна, а душу греет понимание: если не понравится — ничего страшного, программа скоро закончится.

Conservation volunteering in Australia

As a volunteer in this project you get the chance to discover the world’s sixth largest state while dedicating yourself to protecting and conserving pristine natural areas and endangered species.

Arrival and orien­ta­tion in Australia

After your arrival at the respective airport, you are responsible for your transfer to the office. Before you depart, you will get a file with detailed directions to your local office and a voucher with further information. Each project starts on a Friday at 11 o’clock and ends on a Friday at around 16 o’clock. After your arrival, there will be a first orientation, after which you will be brought to a local volunteer shelter or regional housing with the other volunteers. The first weekend is free, so you can recover from your trip and get to know the other volunteers. Depending on the project, it may also be that you will have to travel to a remote location on Sunday.

Volunteer activ­i­ties in Oceania

Your first project will start on Monday at 8 o’clock in the morning. You and the other volunteers will be picked up by the team coordinator. The project locations are changed weekly or after two weeks to offer you as much variety as possible during the programme. We recommend that you participate for at least four weeks in order to experience different projects and places. It is also possible to choose different locations to explore as much of Australia as possible.
Your work may include planting trees, weeding, building fences and roads, protection of endangered species, surveys of flora and fauna, various conservation works, collecting seeds and environmental monitoring.

Accom­mo­da­tion during the volunteer project

After your orientation, you will be transferred either to a local volunteer shelter or to a regional accommodation which can either be a volunteer house, a caravan, a hostel, a bungalow or a tent, depending on the project and location. Because of the different possibilities, it is very important that you bring a sleeping bag. You will share the bedrooms and bathrooms with the other volunteers. Since you will live together with them, you will quickly get to know various people from all over the world and spend your free time together. The meals are usually divided into breakfast, lunch and dinner. The meals are prepared together and afterwards it is cleaned up together.

Leisure time as a volunteer in Down Under

After your work and during your free weekends, you have time to get to know the other volunteers, to take walks and explore the area, to educate yourself or simply to relax in order to start the next day with full enthusiasm. Most project locations are not in close proximity to the city in which you had your orientation. Therefore, we recommend that you schedule some time before or after your project to visit them.

Purpose of the conser­va­tion project in Australia

Australia’s natural environment is one of the most biodiverse on the planet. A large number of endemic (i.e. species which only exist in one region) animal and plant species have developed here over millions of years. You don’t need to look far in the outback or the tropical rainforest to find lifeforms which are perfectly adapted to their environment. But Australia’s sensitive natural environment is under threat from anthropogenic (human) pollution, intensive agriculture, invasive species, which threaten native fauna by destroying their habitat and competing with them for food, as well as climate change, which is leading to the loss of more and more native species. Wide-ranging environmental monitoring and nature and species conservation measures are therefore essential in order to maintain the natural biodiversity of Australia.

FAQ – Learn more about this trip

Prior to departure to Australia

You need to be 18 years or older and have sufficient English skills to apply for this project. Since this project requires you to be physically active, we need a doctor’s certificate confirming your state of health and physical fitness. Furthermore, you might need a visa for your volunteering work. Depending on the duration of your stay and your destination the requirements might vary. You might check out the foreign department’s website for the Visa standards or ask the Natucate team directly.

Prior to your departure we will help you organize and plan your whole stay and save you a place in the project. We will help you arrange flights and visa application. You will be provided with food and accommodations. Transfers between bureaus and projects will be organized by the local team. Furthermore, you will receive working clothes and work equipment. The team in New Zealand and Natucate in Germany will support you during the whole project. Flights are not included.

You will need travel insurance to start your volunteering work with Natucate. We can provide you with all the necessary information. In general you need to talk to your doctor and make sure you are vaccinated against Diphtheria, Morbilli, Mumps and Rubella (MMR). In case of injuries it is also advised to be vaccinated against Tetanus. For current information and warnings regarding your destination you should check out the homepage of the foreign department. In general Australia is a safe country without any severe sicknesses. Still you should inform yourself beforehand on the foreign department’s website about possible risks and how to prevent them.

The project will provide you with working equipment and safety clothes. You don’t need special clothing for the work, but you should pack outdoor clothing that is appropriate regarding the weather conditions. Remember that you will be spending a lot of time outdoors. We advise you to pack hiking boots, resistant pants, long sleeved shirts, water bottle, working gloves, rain clothes, sunscreen, hat and mosquito repellent. You also need warmer clothes for the nights. Your baggage should weigh no more than 15 kilograms due to space shortage.

Arrival in Australia

We will support you during your organization and planning process. You will have to book your flight to Australia on your own. You should arrive at the project’s bureau on a Friday before 11 a.m. Once you have arrived at the airport you can take a bus or shuttle to get into the city. You will receive all the information you need to arrive at the bureau in advance. If you want to change location during your stay you will have to pay for the transfer on your own, but we will help you organize it.

After your arrival there will be an introductory meeting at 11 a.m. at the bureau. There you will get all the information that you need about the project. You will even get to know the other participants and enjoy dinner together. The first weekend is off and you start working on Monday morning. The team on site will arrange your transfer to the projects location. Transfers during the project will also be arranged for you.

During the project in Australia

Depending on your project you will be assigned to a bureau which will be responsible for you during the project. Your project starts on a Friday at 11 a.m. and ends on a Friday at 16:00 p.m. Before you start your work a preparation course will introduce you to the project.

During the project you will be part of a team that works on different nature conservation projects. You will be actively involved in protecting and reforesting the environment. You will plant crops and trees, collect seeds, maintain hiking trails, construct fences and protect animals. The tasks depend on the season, weather conditions and current needs.

Yes, it is possible and we also advise you to change your location during your stay. This way you will get to know Australia and see different regions. You can switch between projects on a two week basis, in some cases you can change after one week already. For example you could start working in Warrnambool for four weeks and then go off to Newcastle for another two weeks. Between these projects you’d have one week off to relax and see the countryside.

Life on site in Australia

Your accommodation depends on the project and its location. The volunteers will usually sleep in shared dormitories with bunk beds, comfortable cabins, caravans or tents. Accommodation will be organized by the Australian team. You should pack a sleeping bag. Most of the time you will share your sleeping space with one further volunteer. You can check out all our locations on our website.

Depending on the project it is possible to be placed with your partner or friend. You can also apply as a group if you want to. Depending on the availability you will have the chance to work on the same project.

During the project you will receive enough food over the day. You will have cereal, bread, toast, coffee and tea for breakfast. You can prepare yourself sandwiches and grab some fruits for lunch and enjoy a whole meal for dinner which is prepared by the whole team.

It is possible to follow a vegetarian diet. Please inform us about your diet beforehand.

During the week you will be working from 8 AM to 4 PM and have the weekends off. Sometimes a project will take up to 10 days and the free days will follow the working days.

On site you will be working with a team of volunteers and project leaders. The project leaders will be your supervisors and may help you with your concerns.

In general you will not have any other kind of spending during the project since accommodation and food is provided. But you might need money for free time activities, trips, wash saloon or additional snacks you want to purchase. You can withdraw cash at the airport or any city.

As long as you stay in the cities you will have telephone reception and can easily find an internet café or WiFi. If you are somewhere outdoors you must expect to be without internet or telephone reception for a couple of days.

The weather depends on your project’s location. Australia has different climatic zones. You should inform yourself prior to your departure. Keep in mind that summer and winter times are opposite to European seasons. You can also always ask the Natucate team for specific weather conditions in the area of your project.

Yes, alcohol is strictly prohibited during the whole project. You may not drink at the project site, in the bureaus or vehicles. You may drink alcohol during your free time and go to a pub. Smoking is also prohibited.
